History Weekend

The biggest weekend of the summer has always been our History Weekend, held on the August long weekend.  Evening programs, walks, old-fashioned fun and games, boat building bee and regatta, music by Peter Solmes, and a spirit walk are all featured.  Presqu'ile has been a draw for those seeking fun and recreation for over 100 years and we celebrate that fact with a chance for everyone to get involved.

Favourite events include “Fun and Games”, recreating events at a 1900’s social picnic, including the time-honoured sack race and three-legged race. The Sunday Calthumpian Parade, recreates the annual cottager’s parade when everyone would dress up and make noise on the way to the dance pavilion.  We still do that, inviting campers to join us as we make our way to the site of the children’s boat races.  There, the boats built the day before, are tested in Lake Ontario’s waves.  The climax of the weekend is always the Sunday night ghost walk when spirits of the past tell their stories.

The Nature Centre, Lighthouse Interpretive Centre, and The Friends' Gift Shop are all open normal summer hours during this weekend.

A schedule of events is posted on social media and around the park the week before this annual special event.

Our Old-fashioned Fun & Games Event always ends with a game of Tug-o-War. Campers versus park staff who will win?
