Changing the Fortunes of the Common Tern
If you are lucky enough to be visiting Presqu’ile between May and August, just take a moment to stop and listen along the shoreline and you will be rewarded by the shrill cry keeuri-keeuri-keeuri of Common Terns foraging just offshore. These beautiful waterbirds are about the size of a blue-jay but are rarely seen on land, spending most of their time over the water and, in the winter, off the coast of Peru.
Despite their name, populations of Common Terns are in continuous decline across inland regions of North America, with up to 42% decline in parts of Ontario since the 1980s, most

Summer 2018 Well Underway
Summer 2018 has started out much different from 2017. For starters we have a beach! Last year’s high water has actually helped the beach situation having deposited a great deal of sand on the beach. So now, even with the water still a bit above long term average, the beach is high and dry and a big hit with visitors. Unfortunately the Piping Plovers did not return this year. Our female from 2016 did nest at Darlington and paid a brief visit to her old neighbourhood here at Presqu’ile from July 8th to the 13th before moving on.
This year is Ontario Parks' 125th

Each year, The Friends of Presqu’ile honour our Volunteer of the Year with the presentation of the John Cole Award. For 2018, the award was presented to Joyce Boucher.
Joyce is the force behind the Friends of Presqu’ile Gift Shop located in the Lighthouse Interpretive Centre. The gift shop is a major fund raiser for the Friends. Of equal importance is Joyce’s role as the face of the Friends to many visitors to Presqu’ile Provincial Park. They know they can receive reliable advice about The Friends, The Park and the town of Brighton. They can buy a

Meet our 2018 Kids 'n Nature staff
Every summer, the Friends of Presqu'ile hire summer students to support the park's Natural Heritage Education Program and the Friends' Kids 'n Nature program. This year we have received three Summer Experience Opportunity grants and two Canada Summer Jobs grants to help us fund these positions.
While most staff start in early July, the Kids 'n Nature staff started this first week of May preparing for our popular school outreach program. Our interpreters will be going into classrooms to teach local students about all the biodiversity that Presqu'ile has to offer.
