Friends Participate in a Successful Brighton History Open House
Dan Buchanan draws the winning ticker while Nancy Sutton of Friends of Presqu'ile Park looks on!
The Friends of Presqu’ile once again participated in a very successful Brighton History open House on February 23rd this year. The theme was “archives” and the Friends’ display consisted of some of the historical pictures the park has in their files. Many of these photographs and post cards have been donated to the park by members of the community through the years. One picture that was catching people’s attention was of the pioneer cemetery in the park. Nothing but a commemorative marker remains of this cemetery and most people didn’t know of its existence.

The Friends of Presqu'ile Park display also summarizes the many activities the Friends operate and support in the park. The day was very busy and many people stopped by to looked at the displays and connect with the Friends. The Friends also ran a raffle for a season park pass and a record number of people supported the Friends by buying a raffle ticket this year. Dan Buchanan, The History Guy, and one of the driving forces behind the open house, drew the winning ticket at the end of the day. Congratulations to Linda Watson of Brighton who won the pass. Linda has recently moved to our town, what a wonderful way to get to know the Park.
A successful weekend and the Friends are looking forward to warmer weather when most of their activities take place. First up, the BBQ and Friends store will be open at the Lighthouse Centre during Waterfowl Weekend, March 16-17.
