Come see ships of all shapes and sizes as they complete a ceremonial sail past of the Presqu'ile Lighthouse.

The Battle of Presqu'ile - A War of 1812 Experience.

August 21 (Click here to go to map of reenactment area)

  • 1812 Encampment
    9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
    Presqu'ile Day Use #2
    Experience life in an 1812 encampment with period clothing, fife and drum corps, soldiers and a working blacksmith.
    Demonstrations every half hour.
  • Fictional Battle - The Siege of Calf Pasture
    2:00 pm at Presqu'ile Calf Pasture.
    The Americans are coming! Come help defend the peninsula from attack.
  • Fictional Battle - Evening Assault
    8:00 pm
    Presqu'ile Day Use #2
    Come witness this large scale conflict at dusk.

August 22:

  • Parade - A call to Arms!
    Parade begins at the Brighton Arens at 1:00 pm
    The local militia will display their colours in this parade.
    The route will go from the Brighton Arena down Main Street to Proctor Park

  • Fictional Battle - Conflict in the Community
    2:00 pm at Proctor Park.
    Join us on the fields of Proctor Park as the British and Americans settle their differences in this live reenactment.
    Special thanks to Save our Heritage Organization and the Lower Trent Conservation Authority.

October 9,
Spirits of the Speedy:

  • Ghost Walk
    8:00 pm, Presqu'ile Park Amphitheater.
    Meet the ghosts of our past as they tell the story of the sinking of the Speedy.
    Remember to bring walking shoes and a flashlight.

  • Tall Ship
    Presqu'ile Lighthouse Interpretive CentreSt Larence IICome and see a real two masted schooner from the 1800's!!

    Deck Tour hours:
    10:00 am to Noon
    1.00 to 4:00 pm

    Arrive early to participate in a deck tour of the St. Lawrence II (weather permitting)

Things to do… for Kids!

  • Visit the Lighthouse Interpretive Centre
  • Colour a picture of your favourite scene in Presqu'ile's history. Let us keep your picture and it will become part of the Remembering Speedy pictorial history book.
  • By his (or her!) knots, ye shall know a sailor! Show the interpreter you can tie your knots and earn your knot-tying certificate.
  • Check out the treasure chest - what might you find on the bottom of Lake Ontario?
  • Ask an adult to bring you to a children's program.
    Meet pirates, pioneers or soldiers from Presqu'ile's past.
  • Ask an adult to buy you the Presqu'ile for Kids Activity Book
    Complete the many tasks to earn your Level 1, 2 or 3 Nature Explorer Certificate. The book includes history activities too.
  • Attend special events on History Weekend
    July 30 to August 2, 2004.
  • Participate in the kids boat-building bee and sailing regatta, old fashioned fun and games and mini-golf

Mid March
Waterfowl Festival

  • Come celebrate the return of spring. Volunteer naturalists will help you view and identify over
    25 different species of ducks, geese and swans.
  • Also carving displays and daily children's activities.
  • Time: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily during the weekends of March 13-14 and March 20-21

May 15 to June 20
Spring Nature Program's

  • Guided nature walks each weekend. Ask at the main gate and check park bulletin boards for more details.
  • School group programs offered on weekdays.
  • Lighthouse Interpretative Centre open
    weekends 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

May 22 and 23
Warblers and Whimbrel Weekend

  • View the elusive Whimbrel and many colourful Warblers as they migrate to their northern nesting grounds.
  • Enjoy guided walks, bird banding and evening programs

June 26 to September 5
Summer Interpretive Program.

  • Help us commemorate the 200th anniversary
    of the sinking of the schooner H.M.S. Speedy with historic events throughout the summer.
  • Guided nature walks, children's programs
  • Evening slide presentation offered daily
    (except Wednesday's).
  • Nature Centre and Lighthouse Interpretive Centre open daily 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

History Weekend.

Relive Presqu'ile's stories past with events such as:

  • A musical evening social
  • Old fashioned field games
  • Children's boat building bee and a historical play.

Monarchs and Migrants Weekend.

  • Bird banding,
  • Monarch tagging
  • Guided nature walks celebrate this weekend of fall migration.

  • Guided walks and other nature activities offered every weekend.

Christmas at Presqu'ile

  • Fine arts and crafts on sale from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily.
