Invasive Species Removal

The Friends, in partnership with park staff, support the removal of invasive plant species in the park. These invaders threaten to outcompete native flora and disrupt delicate habitats. Annual efforts have focused on the control of European Buckthorn, a thorny shrub that forms dense shady thickets along forest edges.

Friends volunteers were instrumental in removing Scots Pines from the rare panne habitat behind the sand beach.

Community Involvement and Funding

These initiatives are sustained by the 25th Anniversary Environmental Fund, which provides long-term financial support for ecological restoration. Visitors can support these efforts by staying on marked trails, cleaning gear to prevent seed spread, and participating in scheduled volunteer events.
